Marine Surveyor YDSA Types of Survey
Barrie Morse has gained specialist knowledge within the Inland waterways and will undertake all types of surveys on steel, iron, glass reinforced plastic (grp) and timber vessels. PRE-PURCHASE OR FULL CONDITION SURVEYIt is generally agreed that a pre-purchase survey is essential before
acquiring a second hand craft. Invariably this type or survey will take place out of water; therefore arrangements should be made for docking, slipping or craning. Brief description of areas covered: General description and history of craft Hull inspection Superstructure Motive power Transmission and sterngear Cabin accommodation and equipment Cabin fitout Gas system Plumbing systems Electrical systems Safety equipment and inventory Boat Safety Scheme (BSS) Summary HULL SURVEYThis type of survey is often required by insurance companies. This is a survey limited to the submersed hull, which will involve an inspection to determine the build quality and condition ascertained by ultrasonic readings. The stern gear and transmission line is also covered. VALUATION SURVEYThis type of survey is sometimes required by insurance or finance companies and does not normally require docking or a structural inspection and therefore inherently restrictive. I will inspect the craft and form an opinion on open market value. INSURANCE SURVEYInspections specifically requested by insurance companies which may involve damage surveys and valuation surveys. BOAT SAFETY EXAMINATIONSThis is not a survey but an examination pertaining to standards within the 'Boat Safety Scheme'. I am authorised by British Waterways and the Environmental Agency for certification. New Build ConstructionThis type of survey will include an oversight concerning the construction of new or repaired craft. Consultation and LitigationA professional survey that can involve advice on purchase, planning and design. I can also offer a professional service including consultation, expert witness and arbitration. 'Part Surveys'Occasionally undertaken which would involve an inspection to specific parts of the vessel i.e. machinery.
